Music is one of my great passions in life. From the time I was very small I was always musically inclined. My father tells stories of me singing the little mermaid song in the car after only hearing it twice. Grandma remembers a time when I was very little (about 3 ish). She was babysitting me, they were worried that I’d be upset when dad left, but my dad sat me down at grandma’s organ (or “morgan” as dad used to call it…) and I played on it for almost an hour, happily occupied with the music.
I started my very first music lessons in fourth grade, on recorder. Then in middle school I started playing clarinet. (Though I didn’t really want to…lol…) And I’ve been playing it in band ever since. I joined chorus in 8th grade, and discovered how much I loved group singing. It wasn’t until college that I realized that I could really sing, and started taking voice lessons. In addition to clarinet I also play piano, tinwhistle, a little guitar, violin, oboe, I still play recorder, and about anything else I can get my hands on. I especially love ethnic instruments, and had considered going into ehtnomusicology at one point.
I am in several ensembles currently: band (on clarinet and sometimes oboe), chorus, Madrigalians (the college’s small music ensemble), a clarinet/2 flute trio, Orchestra (on violin) and an Andres Sisters Trio. (That one’s a lot of fun…I’m Laverne. lol.) This past year the Madrigalians took a trip to sing in Russia. It was absolutely amazing! But I’ll tell about that later.
I have no idea where I want to go with music. I love performing! Small ensembles are especially fun, though nothing can compare to the sound of a ful orchestra. (Strings! <3) I will probably teach private lessons, and I think I’d like to someday conduct a small vocal ensemble at the collegiate level. Though I’d be perfectly happy being a stay at home mom teaching lessons and performing on the side. (As long as my husband is a musician… :p) Any questions? Ask!
